Operator snoozes while train speeds along

Here's Citizen Journalism at its finest. A teenager catches a Washington Metro Operator sleeping on the job. It comes to light days after a crash on the system, and an incident where another operator was videod texting while driving. Thanks to YouTube, and easy-to-use cameras, the age of the citizen reporter has truly arrived. And its distribution on YouTube circumvents the usual unseemly scramble of TV networks to secure exclusive rights.

Mark began his career in Liverpool, England as a reporter and anchor at Radio City. He moved to BBC Radio in London, and became the Senior Producer of the BBC’s live weekly flagship TV program, Question Time. In the following years he worked both in the UK and traveled the world working with some of the BBC’s finest correspondents. He produced from New York, Washington and Los Angeles, throughout Western Europe, Russia, Poland, Canada, Haiti, Belize, and Columbia.

In 1999 Mark became Managing Editor for News at WNYC Radio in New York, where his team won an Edward R. Murrow Award, and a DuPont Columbia Award, both for Investigative Reporting projects. He then moved to Washington DC to become Program Director at WAMU 88.5. He is also the Broadcast Journalist in Residence at American University.

Mark lives in North West DC with his wife, Melinda, their two children and their golden retriever, Josie.
